Parco Nazionale del Pollino (nature, culture and sports) proposal 3
The Pollino National Park located between the southern and northern Basilicata Calabria Park is the largest in Italy, is bathed by the Tyrrhenian Sea and the Ionian Sea, its massifs of Pollino and dell’Orsomarso testify to the age-old plot between Nature and Man. The emblem of the park is the Pine Loricato.
The park offers various itineraries of which we recommend:
the Lao river comes from the Serra del Prete (2181 meters), runs through the valley of the Mercure to flow, after 51 Km in the Tyrrhenian Sea near Scalea. Born with the name Mercure (linked to the events of the Basilian monks) in the village of Viggianello, in Basilicata, when it comes in the regions of Calabria, however, assumes the name of Lao. Going down to the river valley towns of bathes Laino Borgo Laino Castello, Papasidero, Orsomarso, Santa Domenica Talao, Santa Maria Del Cedro, Scalea. After hitting the town of Laino Borgo the waterway leads into large deep canyon about 200 meters. It represents one of the few rivers best preserved of the south, you can switch between canoeing or rafting tours of medieval villages of Calabria or the Paleolithic caves suggestive as that of Papasidero “Grotta del Romito”.
